The following measurements reflect average performance on a medium sized index and a large one, with CINDEX running on a 2 GHz computer under OS 10.5. Performance depends on the amount of memory available to CINDEX, and under many circumstances will be better than the figures given here.

  • Finding any entry: < 0.25 sec
  • Searching for text: 50,000 records/sec

  • Formatting entries: 10 pages/sec

Large index (90,000 entries)

  • Sorting: more than 45,000 records/sec
  • Finding any entry: < 0.2 sec
  • Searching for text: more than 150,000 records/sec

  • Formatting entries for printing: more than 10 pages/sec
